šŸ’” Marketing Moments with Mounier šŸ’”

This week, I had the pleasure of joining Liam Lawson on the AI Tool Report Podcast. We got pretty personal in this discussion but also dove into scaling B2B SaaS businesses and the transformative power of AI in marketing. Here are some core insights from our conversation.

Building Authentic Relationships

One of the most profound lessons I've learned in my journey through B2B SaaS marketing is the power of relationships. Success isn't just about having the best product; it's about the people you connect with and the trust you build. From startups to scaling organizations, maintaining these connections has been crucial. It's more important to be a good person and build genuine human connections than to over-analyze every move.

My Path from Political Science to Entrepreneurship

My transition from political science to entrepreneurship was driven by necessity and passion. I needed to pay for college, so I started creating websites and marketing plans. This hustle ignited a shift in my mindsetā€”balancing work with personal interests, and eventually leading me to help companies scale to hundreds of millions in ARR. It's a testament to how unconventional paths can lead to incredible opportunities.

Balancing Personal Projects and Career Growth

One topic we touched on was the delicate balance between personal projects and career growth. It's essential to find motivation in building the world you want to live in. For me, this means working with amazing people and pursuing personal projects alongside my career. Whether it's launching a climate tech business or creating a mindfulness retreat, these endeavors keep me grounded and inspired.

The Importance of Hiring the Right People

Hiring is more than just finding someone with the right skills. It's about looking for candidates who align with your company's values and involving your team in the interview process. Empowering your team and hiring people who are better than you in their core areas of responsibility fosters a culture of learning and growth. It's servant leadership in actionā€”supporting your team to achieve great things together.

Leveraging AI for Social Media Marketing with Lately

At Lately, we harness the power of AI to analyze historical social media posts and create effective content strategies. Our AI-driven tools, like video editing and scheduling, streamline social media management for franchises and local businesses. But the key is authenticity and personalization. AI helps us craft content that resonates, but it's the human touch that makes the interactions meaningful.

The Future of AI and the Importance of Upskilling

AI is rapidly transforming industries, but with this transformation comes the potential for job displacement. It's crucial to stay ahead by upskilling and adapting to the changing landscape. Embrace AI as a tool to enhance your capabilities, not replace them. This mindset will keep you marketable and relevant in the future.

Personal Goals and Building a Better World

One of the standout moments of our chat was discussing my personal ambitionsā€”launching a climate tech initiative, owning a farm, and creating a retreat dedicated to mindfulness and human connection. These goals aren't just dreams; they're actionable steps towards building a better world. They drive me to think differently, embrace innovation, and take meaningful actions.

Challenge to You

So, hereā€™s my challenge to you: Think differently. Embrace innovation. Take actionable steps towards your dreams. Whether it's leveraging AI in your business or finding new ways to connect on a human level, the future is yours to shape.

šŸ‘¾ TOFU Quick Bytes: Subscript Teardown šŸ‘¾

Subscript teardown

Founded in 2020, Subscript is a software company that allows users to understand and manage subscription businesses, offering tools to track and analyze financial data and performance metrics, to facilitate growth.

Strategy overview:

Subscriptā€™s primary target market is subscription-based businesses, operating in the B2B SaaS space.

Performance Analysis:

  • Subscriptā€™s annual revenue has not been publicly disclosed.

  • They have 18 customers (including Circle, Census and Propeller).

  • Theyā€™ve raised $3.75M in 1 funding round

  • They currently have 15 employees.

How have they achieved this?

Critical Teardown:

What does Subscript do well?

Personalized content: Using AI-driven tools, Subscript tailors content - such as messaging - to individuals based on user behaviors and preferences, making it relevant to increase engagement.

Automated processes: Users have complimented Subscript on the ā€˜intuitiveā€™ nature of their AI-powered service, and its ability to automate a lot of time-consuming processes, which is great for streamlining workflows and boosting productivity.

Excellent customer service: Multiple users have commented on both the rapidity of responses received from the customer service team when theyā€™ve experienced issues, but also the excellent quality of it, improving customer satisfaction.

What doesnā€™t Subscript do well?

No social proof/case studies: Although they have testimonials on their homepage, Subscript could incorporate detailed case studies with reputable sources, including key performance metrics, to demonstrate how their service has specifically benefited the business and build trust with prospective customers.

Minimal Organic Traffic: Subscript is only getting around 1k organic visitors per month to their site. More than half of that traffic is driven by their brand name. Which means the searcher is already familiar with the company and isnā€™t really a net new prospect. Even though they have a decent number of keywords ranking - many of the keywords are irrelevant and not driving any visitors. The only page besides the homepage that is getting any organic traffic is a top of funnel piece discussing CARR versus ARR. Subscript should double down on MOFU and BOFU pieces to create more authority in the space.

Learning curve: As itā€™s a startup, Subscript has a few creases to iron out - such as minor bugs that have appeared as early adopters, and the currently limited custom charting.

AI integration

Automated data extraction: Subscript uses AI to automatically extract and categorize financial data from various sources, ensuring that the information is accurate.

Predictive analytics: By using machine learning algorithms and analyzing historical data, Subscript can predict future financial trends and offer companies valuable insights to inform their strategies.

Anomaly detection: Subscript uses AI algorithms to locate anomalies or strange patterns in data, which could signify greater issues that need further attention.

Key takeaways:

  • Use AI to predict future trends and give you valuable insights.

  • Focus on delivering consistently excellent customer service, with rapid response-times, and make your customer into a walking-advertisement.

  • Include detailed case studies from influential people who have benefited from using your service, in an easy-to-find place on your website. Use performance metrics to give prospective customers a clear view of your serviceā€™s value.

  • Increase organic traffic efforts by focusing on prospects further in the buying journey. This means leaning on MOFU and BOFU pieces.

  • Use AI to analyze past interactions with users, behaviors and create content that is tailored to their interests, making it relevant and engaging for them.
